Title
What to do to avoid heat stroke
Details

In the heat of summer, everyone is gasping. Anyone can get sick if they are exposed to the sun for a long time in intense heat or do physical work. The normal temperature of the human body is 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. If the body temperature exceeds 104 degrees for any reason, the person's blood pressure drops, and may even become unconscious. This problem is called 'heat stroke' in medical terms. If not treated on time it can lead to death.

Normally the hypothalamus of our brain regulates body temperature. When the temperature rises, the body loses heat through dilation of blood vessels or through sweating and tries to regulate the balance. Prolonged exposure to extreme heat or overexertion causes the body to lose its ability to regulate its temperature, causing 'heat stroke'.

Who has more

● Elderly and children have poor temperature control; So they have more heat stroke.

● Those who do physical work for long periods of time in extreme heat.

● Regular use of certain medications (drugs for excessive urination or psychiatric medications).

How to understand heat stroke

● Dizziness

● Incoherent behavior

● Shortness of breath

● Decreased blood pressure

● Stop sweating and dry skin

● Decreased urine output

● Dry and red skin

● The patient may also become unconscious

treatment

Quick measures to take if someone has a heat stroke. These measures include:

■ The patient should be moved to a relatively cool place

■ Wipe the body with a wet cloth; Leave the fan on or ventilate

■ Give plenty of water or saline to drink

■ Apply ice to shoulder, armpit or groin

■ Arrange for immediate hospital admission.

Ways of prevention

Following some rules on hot days can prevent heat stroke:

● Wear loose clothing, preferably light colored cotton

● Stay indoors or in a shaded area as much as possible

● Use a hat, cap or umbrella when going out in the sun

● Drink plenty of water or food containing saline or fruit juice

● Do not stay in the sun for long periods of time.

● Avoid strenuous physical activity during summer.

Most heat stroke patients recover completely if the necessary measures and proper treatment are taken at the earliest.
